BJP media in-charge and legislator Randhir Sharma has launched a scathing attack on the state government, alleging that it has failed to handle disaster situations with seriousness and preparedness.
He said that whether the damage caused by a disaster is small or large, for the poor it is always devastating, yet the Congress government has failed to respond responsibly.

Sharma alleged that field staff do not visit affected areas unless pressured by legislators.
Their duty, he stressed, is to reach the spot immediately, assess losses, and provide relief, but this basic responsibility is neglected.

He demanded that during disasters, officials must act proactively without waiting for political intervention.
He further said that every year, heavy rains occur in July, August, and September, yet the government never holds preparedness meetings or makes prior contingency plans. “As soon as the monsoon arrives, floods and destruction follow. This repeated failure raises serious concerns,” Sharma remarked.
The BJP leader argued that criticism is part of governance and necessary for improvement, but the government has ignored constructive opposition voices.
He accused the Revenue Department and PWD of lacking seriousness in their approach. Pointing to PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh’s foreign trip during a crisis, Sharma asked, “What could be more important than addressing a disaster at home?”
He also compared the approach of contractors under different governments.
“During the BJP regime, contractors never waited for tenders to begin relief work because they trusted that payments would be made. Under the Congress government, even after tenders are allotted, contractors refuse to work, fearing non-payment of their bills,” he claimed.
Another sign of eroding trust, Sharma said, is that people are no longer donating to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Instead, they are directly helping victims or routing support through Opposition Leader Jairam Thakur.
“This clearly shows that the public has lost faith in the government,” he added.
Accusing the government of factionalism, Sharma alleged that departments headed by ministers not aligned with the Chief Minister are deliberately denied adequate budget allocations.
This, he said, is directly affecting the delivery of relief to disaster-hit families.
